Urban Dictionary: 2. Shoelace Express – “a metaphorical railroad that you would ‘board’ to let your friends know that you’re walking.”

On the 5th of February 2013 I am setting off from the pier in Eastbourne and walking the entire 7000 miles of the Great Britain’s coastline in one go! That’s further than walking from London to Beijing. I will be travelling light, accompanied only by my pack containing camping gear and essential kit.

I aim to camp as often as I can but definitely won’t turn down accommodation! All I’ll be using to get around is my silly little feet and perhaps the odd boat. I will stick as close to the coast as possible too, hoping to get back by Christmas.

I am not looking to break any world records or make a big deal about the whole thing, what I am hoping to do however is raise a whole bunch of money for one or two very worthwhile local charities. I imagine I will meet a lot of fantastic people and learn a lot, many of you I know are 94.6% up for joining us along parts of the way too. All I can say is please get involved!

You can help me raise money by donating at either one of the links below!

You can keep up to date on my progress by following me on Twitter, I’ve also got a Facebook page for you to like and help me share my cool and awesome stuff but until I actually leave I’ll mostly tweet about the preparations, fundraising and smaller walks I’ll be doing up until the big day. Something else you may find interesting is this blog, by a guy called Nat Severs. Back in 2010, when he was 24, he walked the same journey that I am hoping to achieve. The blog has greatly influenced me and reading that, along with a little bit of contact from him I have gained a lot of useful information for the trip next year!
